Job Summary
Provides instruction to students in the area of military science and/or aerospace education. Serves as command staff to a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at a designated secondary school under the aegis of the Army or Air Force JROTC. Performs work under the administrative supervision of a civilian principal and under the technical and military supervision of the ROTC Commandant of the appropriate service arm.
Essential Functions
- Instructs classes in the fundamental organization, tactics, and strategy of Air Force and/or Army operations;
- Conducts training in the manual of arms, close order drill, and standard military discipline;
- Conducts training in the operation, care, cleaning, and maintenance of weapons and equipment;
- Teaches military science; conducts courses in such military subjects as employment and deployment of weapons systems; provides instruction in the military aspects of geopolitics and possible defense;
- Teaches aerospace education and the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the nature of aerospace power and of the physical and psychological environments in which it serves; relates the impact of aerospace power upon complex relationships in political, diplomatic, military, cultural, and economic affairs;
- Participates in scheduling and rostering students;
- Assigns, reviews, and grades classroom and field work;
- Conducts field trips for JROTC students

Minimum Requirements
NOTE: JROTC Instructors have to complete a second step in order to confirm eligibility. First step is completion of this application to ensure minimum requirements are met, and the second step is an interview with the District’s Office of Postsecondary Readiness.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;
- Status as a retired Air Force or Army commissioned officer
Certificates/Licenses
- Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Vocational Instructional certificate in Military Science;
- Presentation of an original, signed letter from the Certification Officer of an accredited college or university verifying current enrollment in an approved certification program in order to be eligible for an Emergency Permit.
