This is a full-time, PFT-represented role. The salary scale is the same as our Teacher salary scale, and these roles are

Job Summary
Support the Professional Growth System in observing, intervening, planning and implementing the PAR
process. Consulting Teachers will be responsible for supporting new teachers and the identified tenured
teachers through a variety of instructional strategies to enhance their teaching skills. The Consulting Teacher
will help in the development of specific teacher assistance plans, and make recommendations for retention to
be reviewed by the PAR Panel. They will provide regular status reports and create written documents to
indicate the progress of their assigned caseload of teachers. Duties include utilizing the District’s teaching
standards, instructional models and assessments; assisting in the development of plans for adult learners to
enhance teaching; observing and coaching of effective teaching practices for new and tenured teachers;
monitoring progress and making changes based on the specific needs of the participating teacher. This role will
involve significant interaction and communication with the teachers, principals and the PAR Panel.


Essential Functions
● Plan and implement an intensive program of intervention and support for the participating teachers which
includes observations, ongoing communication with teachers, demonstration lessons, modeling,
co-teaching and a variety of instructional strategies to enhance teaching skills of participating teachers in
the PAR program.
● Provide responsive coaching in alignment with the Office of Professional Learning Coaching Framework
● Prioritize coaching supports in a manner that is developmentally appropriate, given the teacher,
classroom, and school context
● Maintain accurate and up-to-date coaching records and data to ensure transparency with participating
teachers and to inform appropriate adjustments to coaching approach
● Analyze and diagnose teacher specific needs, design a teacher specific assistance plan.
● Assist teachers with data analysis, and implementation of the District’s curriculum and assessments at the
elementary, middle and/or high school level(s)
● Use technology to access web-based data, and provide suggested resources for participating teachers.
● Create and manage systems for schedule and caseload to ensure coaching time is maximized
● Create a supportive, collegial and confidential environment.
● Participate in professional development and educational training opportunities aligned to current research
in educational methodology and pedagogy.
● Prepare and submit regular written documentation such as progress/status reports, final summative
reports and other narratives.
● Monitor and record progress of participating teachers in the PAR program and make recommendations for
retention to the PAR Pair for participating teachers.
● Prepare and present accumulated data and documentation to support the recommendation to the PAR
panel.

Minimum Requirements
● Master’s degree program at an accredited college or university in an educational discipline.
● Five years of full-time, paid, appointed classroom teaching experience.

Certificates/Licenses
● Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Instructional II certificate in the appropriate subject area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:
●  Principles and practices of sound classroom management and engagement strategies
●  Grade-level instructional objectives and aligned lesson activities and assessments
●  Adult learner strategies and techniques
●  Contractual provisions of the Peer Assistance Review (PAR) program
●  SDP Teaching Standards
●  Learning methods and educational best practices
Demonstrated skill in:
 Demonstrating a collaborative approach to coaching teachers and working with stakeholders
●  Providing clear and data-informed feedback
●  Exercising appropriate leadership behavior to enhance and promote change
●  Delivering outstanding classroom teaching in alignment with SDP Teaching Standards
●  Using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Powerpoint) and Google Apps (Drive, Docs, Slides,
etc)

Demonstrated ability to:
●  Communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing
●  Establish and maintain effective working relationships
●  Use data and the classroom experience to make informed and objective decisions

TERM:
Consulting Teachers shall have terms of no more than six (6) years. A Consulting Teacher who has completed
a term must return to the classroom for a minimum of two (2) years before re-applying for the PAR program.
