Job Summary
Coordinates and facilitates the assignment of students reentering a comprehensive high school from court-ordered dependent or delinquent placement. Serves as a liaison between the assigned school and Family Court, the Department of Human Services (DHS), Community Behavioral Health (CBH) and private providers of residential education and other governmental agencies. Facilitates the student transfer process, admissions process, credit retrieval process, coordination of support services and the appropriate resolution of disciplinary and/or academic issues raised by teachers, school personnel, the youth or any of the youth's support systems.
Essential Functions
· Coordinates and monitors all aspects of communication between and among the
· Works in close cooperation with social service agencies, courts and community resources to assist in securing appropriate school assignments.
· Resolves parental, social agencies and partner concerns.
· Coordinates the assembly of documental support for re-admittance of students
· Works to address school climate issues which may negatively impact school reentry.
· Serves as an advocate for the full and smooth reentry of youth into the mainstream services customized for each youth.
· Collaborates with the school-based Probation Officer, if appropriate, in all aspects of his/her responsibilities.
· Responds to inquiries from internal and external entities regarding District
policies, procedures and initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
· Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience, which has included facilitating educational placements for re-enrolling students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Considerable knowledge of:
- the practices and procedures used to reenroll students.
from court-ordered dependent and delinquent placement, restorations from
expulsion and alternative placements. - the techniques and practices used when working with "at-risk" student
populations. - laws, mandates, and consent decrees that govern alternative placement.
· Demonstrated knowledge of:
- techniques used in the development of policies and procedures.
- the use of Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
· Demonstrated skill in:
- negotiation and analysis.
- prioritizing and managing competing assignments.
· Ability to:
- provide information on program goals and objective to District staff,
students, parents, and representatives of community organizations. - learn District policies and procedures pertaining to alternative education.
- work independently as well as part of a team.
- handle multiple projects through to completion.
