Job Summary

The role of the Academic Coach is to support the use of effective instructional practices in the area of Mathematics and to serve as a liaison between the district and school staff to promote improved student achievement in mathematics.

Essential Functions

  • Provide support to teachers in the implementation of the math instructional components of the curriculum
  • Support the school's leadership team in monitoring the implementation of actions and strategies included in the School Improvement Plan for the purpose of assisting the school in meeting the identified goals
  • Teach model lessons for teachers of mathematics in order to demonstrate effective instructional practices
  • Work closely with the Math Lead and Principal in planning, implementing, and assessing reform efforts at the school for the purpose of creating a learning environment that supports academic achievement for all students
  • Work with the school's leadership team to plan, develop, and implement a staff learning plan that addresses professional learning needs
  • Assist in the school improvement planning and implementation process
  • Work collaboratively with the District Offices to support district initiatives

Other Functions

  • Attend professional development led by the Office of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Office of Teaching and Learning, and other offices (as directed)

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience in teaching Mathematics

 

  • All work experience related to the position must be included on the resume

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • PA Core State Standards for Mathematics, including the instructional shifts and their implications for instruction
  • effective lesson and unit planning
  • the principles, and methods of education in Math
  • research related to the field of mathematics
  • the principles of adult learning
  • best practices for coaching teachers and school leaders

Demonstrated ability to:

  • provide feedback on teaching practice in alignment with Danielson Framework for Teaching
  • develop and facilitate professional learning for school staff that is based on the tenets of impactful adult learning
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships

Certificates/Licenses

  • Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania instructional certificate for math

This is a 10-month, PFT-represented position. The salary grade for this role is 0202.

In addition, the candidate must have an excellent record of attendance and punctuality during the last three (3) years (defined as no more than eighteen (18) occasions of lateness or absence for personal illness within this period of time with the exception of one extended long-term absence)
