Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- design, operation and theory of wide-area and metropolitan-area networking and communication large-scale broadband systems.
- design, operation and theory of local-area networks and end-user network connectivity.
- networking topologies, networking hardware and software, connectivity infrastructure, switching/routing, WiFi and emerging wireless technologies, communications protocols, virtual private networking, remote access, network addressing, network management, clustering and monitoring.
- IEEE 802.11 standards utilized in conventional networked architectures.
- technology operations inclusive of the management, maintenance, and administration of telecommunications and networking systems and services.
- IP-based networking and associated protocols including TCP, UDP, BGP, IGRP, OSPF, RIP, RSVP, MPLS, DiffServ and SPB.
- LAN protocols including Ethernet, VRRP, Spanning Tree, VLAN, IPSEC, and Multilink Trunking.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Four years of full-time, paid, professional, broad-based technology experience which must have included engineering, oversight and/or management of telecommunications and networking services.
OR - Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade.
- Eight years of full-time, paid, professional, broad-based technology experience which must have included engineering, oversight and/or management of telecommunications and networking services.
- Possession of an industry-recognized intermediate or advanced network engineering certification.
OR - Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade.
- Eight years of full-time, paid, professional, broad-based technology experience which must have included engineering, oversight and/or management of telecommunications and networking services.
OR - Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent.
Certificates/Licenses - Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment.
Additional Requirements
- Must have access to a mode of transportation for performing work-related duties at various locations within Philadelphia.
- Candidate must have the ability to push, pull and lift equipment and materials weighing up to 60 lbs.
