Job Summary
The mission of the assigned office is to provide high quality educational services to students. True to the spirit of collective accountability and continuous improvement, the assigned office manages accountability systems and planning, data governance, and data quality efforts, and aims to establish a consistent and systematic way to assess progress against performance targets aligned to the Board of Education’s Goals and Guardrails. We achieve this mission by creating a suite of tools including but not limited to: performance frameworks; management dashboards, data quality scorecards; data management systems; web applications and tools; and custom reports and analyses. In addition to monitoring, evaluating, and assessing charter schools authorized by the Board of Education (BOE), the Charter Schools Office also conducts the review process for new charter applications, evaluates charter amendments, and solicits and evaluates proposals for Renaissance charter operators. Apart from charter authorizing activities, the Charter Schools Office supports all operational functions of charter schools and serves as the liaison with District departments in the areas of facilities, transportation, charter payments, grants, and information technology

The Senior Associate supports the day-to-day operations of the assigned office, ensuring that various assignments are successfully executed. They will support any combination of the aforementioned workstreams and may function as a project manager as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Calculates and validates key performance indicators and provides auxiliary support in the production of progress reports and management dashboards for network leaders and central office chiefs.
  • Performs ad hoc analysis and identifies key trends that assist various leaders with data-driven decisions or policy changes at improving overall performance.
  • Applies data visualization principles to develop and present analysis in a clear, simplistic and impactful way.
  • Disseminates longitudinal data sets.
  • Provides auxiliary support in meeting federal, state and local reporting requirements.
  • Fulfills internal and external data requests as needed.
  • Provides auxiliary support in maintaining an efficient and effective process for the receipt, cleaning, storage and analysis of both internal and third party data sets containing District-, school-, and student-level outcomes.
  • Holds self and others accountable to high standard of quality assurance practices.
  • Trains and oversees junior staff – namely interns and analysts – ensuring accurate and timely completion of deliverables that are “client-ready.”

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in economics, statistics education policy, mathematics, quantitative analytics, engineering, computer science, management information systems, or a related field.
  • Six years of full-time, paid, professional experience, two of which have included working with large longitudinal data sets.
    OR
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in economics, statistics education policy, mathematics, quantitative analytics, engineering, computer science, management information systems, or a related field.
  • Four years of full-time, paid, professional experience, one of which has included working with large longitudinal data sets.
    OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to by acceptable by the Office of Talent in collaboration with the assigned office.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • descriptive and inferential statistics.
  • statistical software packages, such as SPSS, Stata, or Excel.
  • statistical software packages, such as R, Stata, SAS, and/or SPSS
  • cleaning, merging and utilizing large data sets.
  • PowerPoint and/or other presentation design software.
