Job Summary
Under the direction of the principal or designee, the School Improvement Support Liaison assists all school personnel in connecting supports for students and their families, to ensure academic achievement as outlined in the school's action plan. Works in the schools to assist in the coordination of school improvement programs and activities for all members of the student community. Assists in building community partnerships to provide support outside of the school to enhance the performance of students and provide support to families. Serves as a member of the School Advisory Council. This paraprofessional is a role model for students and
community and is expected to adhere to all School District policies and procedures.


Essential Functions
Both Specialties
• Maintains all necessary records, including, but not limited to, daily activity logs.
• Serves as a member of the attendance team.
• Assists in the completion of documents needed for the truancy prevention and intervention processes.
• Serves as a liaison between the school, parents/guardians, and community.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, identifies topics for parent and student information sessions concerning curriculum, interventions, and academic support activities.
• Assists in the development of agendas, presentations, and professional development for parent and student meetings, other specific groups, and committees related to school improvement.
• Works with individual students, or small groups of students.
• Schedules and facilitates individual parent/guardian meetings at school or the parent’s home as needed to address parent concerns and needs.
• Tracks data to address the needs of students and families.
• Supports and advocates student and parent participation and attendance in extended instructional and non-instructional opportunities.
• Acts as a liaison for Supplemental Education Services (SES) for eligible students.
• Responds appropriately to concerns and issues raised by parents, students, and community organizations.
• Assists with the implementation of the policies and procedures of the School District, Board of Education, and all grant mandates.

 

Salary Information

Salary Grade: 885 | $31,436

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of full-time, paid social services experience working in a school setting or with children, parents, or community organizations.

All work experience related to the position must be included on the resume.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Both Specialties
• Knowledge of:
o community resources, supplemental educational services and social service
agencies.
• Ability to:
o successfully work with children.
o employ tact, diplomacy and sound judgment in dealing with sensitive and/or confidential issues and hostile attitudes.
o work effectively with parents/guardians and children from varying socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds to address their specific concerns.
o effectively present information and respond to questions in various settings.
o write routine reports and correspondence.
o use a personal computer with regards to e-mail, internet browsers and word processing and the ability to learn other necessary software.
o read and interpret various documents, such as but not limited to, safety rules and governmental regulations.
o communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Additional Requirements for the Bilingual Specialty
• Ability to:
o speak English and the required foreign language fluently.
o read and write English and the required foreign language.
