Title: Program Coordinator, Nutrition Education and School Wellness Program; Outreach and Engagement; 

Department: Office of Curriculum and Instruction

The Eat Right Philly Nutrition and Wellness Team is looking for someone with a passion and creative skillset for social media, e-newsletters, graphic design, and all around healthy behavior influencing! This Coordinator will help promote the great work school staff and partners are doing to create healthy school environments and fun and engaging activities for students and families. This role is represented by the PFT union, and the salary grade is 0030 with a salary range starting at $56,781. Please note that anyone new to the PFT union will start on the first salary step, regardless of experience. 

Job Summary:

As part of a team, oversees programmatic activities for the District’s Pennsylvania SNAP-Ed funded Nutrition Education and School Wellness Program. Coordinates the development and implementation of various components of the nutrition education and school wellness program for school-age children, parents, and caregivers. Assesses school and District needs and capacity, supports program planning and implementation, and monitors and evaluates program activities on an ongoing basis to ensure that grant and departmental objectives are being met. Daily work will focus on School Wellness outreach and engagement strategies for students and families and include social media, e-newsletter and website content for the program. 

 

Essential Functions:

   Plans, coordinates and supervises employees engaged in nutrition education and school wellness activities; develops, implements and revises the nutrition education and school wellness program for all school-age children; develops selection criteria for program site participants and schools; oversees the development of materials and subject matter for programmatic activities.

   Oversees and schedules nutrition education and school wellness programs; develops and revises timelines for nutrition education and school wellness programs; meets with principals and staff to coordinate scheduling of schools and proper documentation of programmatic activities.

   Oversees and evaluates the performance of nutrition education and school wellness program support staff.

   Provides ongoing training, technical assistance, professional development and support to nutrition education and wellness staff, school staff, and external partners.  

   Works with children and parents to develop proper nutrition, physical activity, and eating habits.

   Collects data and tracks responses for program participants; supports all monitoring and reporting processes for grant and departmental purposes.

   Promotes the nutrition and school wellness program through various means of communication, print, electronic, and social media.

   Assists with writing grant proposals.

   Keeps abreast of new developments in the nutrition field.

   Attends and participates in annual and local meetings as requested.

   Assists the Director, Assistant Director, and Program Manager with other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Functions (Outreach and Engagement Specialty):

   Support planning, coordination, and implementation of nutrition, physical activity, and wellness messaging and communication in the form of social media, webpage, enewsletter, and other print materials.

   Support coordination and alignment of nutrition, physical activity, and wellness messaging across external partners engaged in similar programming.

Minimum Requirements:

   Bachelor's degree from and accredited college or university.

   Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience in the field of nutrition, school wellness, community-based organizations, non-profits, or public health which has involved developing and implementing outreach and engagement strategies for at-risk populations.

 

Certificates/Licenses:

  Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutrition (RDN) certification through the Commission on Dietetic Registrations’ criteria.

  Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment. 

 

OR

 

  Eligibility for a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutrition (RDN) certification through the Commission on Dietetic Registrations’ criteria. 

 

 

  Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment. 

 

OR

 

  Three years of full-time, paid nutrition education, school wellness, or public health experience in a school-based, community-based, or non-profit nutrition education program may be substituted for the Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. 

  Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge of:

o   the principles and practices of nutrition education, school wellness and public health.

o   the methods and procedures used in the assessment, planning, development, and monitoring of a nutrition education and school wellness program for schoolage children.

o   the current uses and capabilities of personal computers and their software applications.

 

   Ability to:

o   prepare materials for programmatic activities.

o   maintain accurate records and prepare reports using computer database systems.

o   coordinate and oversee the work of staff and attain effective results.

o evaluate nutrition education and school wellness programs effectively.

o be a role model for positive healthy eating and physical activity behaviors.

o communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

o   establish and maintain effective working relationships.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Outreach and Engagement Specialty):

   Demonstrated knowledge of:

o   the principles and practices of health promotion, outreach, and engagement, school wellness, public health, and/or community-based programming.

 

   Ability to:

o   prepare materials for programmatic activities.

o   maintain accurate records and prepare reports using computer database systems.

o   coordinate and oversee the work of staff and attain effective results.

o   evaluate nutrition education and school wellness programs effectively.
