Minimum Requirements

  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications, journalism, business or a related field.

  Six years of full-time, paid, professional experience in strategic communications, public policy, governmental relations or external relations.

                                                                             

                                                                                                                        OR

 

  Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major concentration in education, educational administration, education policy, business or a related field.

  Four years of full-time, paid, professional experience in strategic communications or external relations. 

 

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

   Demonstrated knowledge of: 

o  the principles of effective communication. o strategic communications planning. o editorial principles and practices as they pertain to the preparation of informational materials.

o  English usage, grammar, rhetoric, punctuation and spelling. o supervisory techniques. o techniques for establishing and maintaining effective community relations.

o  collaborative problem-solving methods.

 

   Demonstrated ability to:

o  design and implement organizational and strategic communications plans and programs that are in-line with the Board’s goals.

o  work cooperatively and collaboratively with others across business units, functional departments, localities and disciplines.

o  write and edit clear, concise, accurate, and effective communications and presentations for students, families and employees.

o  create partnerships at all levels in a school district. 

 

o  manage complex processes, lead teams and supervise staff. o speak before diverse groups, listen attentively and serve as a facilitator.  o present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing. o establish and maintain effective working relationships.

o  exercise judgment and use discretion in public settings and in stressful situations.
