Job Summary
Manages and oversees the work of the Directors and Curriculum Specialists in grades K-12 in the content areas of English Language Arts (ELA) and Math or Science, Social Studies, Health, Safety, and Physical Education or Innovation. Provides leadership in the areas of curriculum development, staff development, and the effective utilization of instructional materials. Ensures that operations are in compliance with District policies as well as local, state and federal regulations. Formulates and implements new programs or expands existing programs in order to meet District goals and objectives. For the content area of Arts and Creative Learning, provides supervision and instructional leadership for all activities related to Arts and Creative Learning within the District. Oversees the management, development, and implementation of educational programs in the schools, with a focus on all Arts content areas. Designs curriculum and programming that supports high-quality instruction, increases accountability for the academic achievement of students, elevates the standard of instruction and learning in the schools, and assists schools in creating conditions in which each child can grow to his or her full potential. Creates a system-level approach to coaching and utilizing data to inform instructional decisions about Arts and Creative Learning, assuring that the standards and objectives of each Arts curriculum are aligned with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and being implemented. Makes budget decisions that positively impact and improve instruction in the schools. Creates partnerships within the school communities and manages existing partnerships with key external organizations that pertain to performing arts. Strategically builds District-wide programming that ensures access for all students regardless of geographical location or school type.
Essential Functions
- Oversees and directs the work of staff in the Office of Curriculum and Instruction; coordinates the planning and implementation of curricular programs and initiatives; develops plans that address continuous student improvement in response to District data.
- Oversees the coordination of local and state assessments.
- Researches current instructional practices and models for effective instruction.
- Oversees all of the’ professional development for alignment to the District's anchor goals, guardrails and academic priorities.
- Works collaboratively with internal departments, institutions of higher education and other external organizations and agencies.
- Manages the implementation of special projects
Arts and Creative Learning Specialty
- Oversees the implementation of School District policies and procedures; disseminates policy and information to all stakeholders; distributes policies and procedures that impact students and employees; trains team members; assists principals and other school staff on the interpretation and implementation of policy.
- Monitors the implementation of curricular resources, with a focus on Arts and Creative Learning.
- Develops curriculum across all Arts content areas.
- Oversees curriculum implementation at District schools.
- Monitors and communicates progress against the District's objectives and the short and long-term plan that aligns with Accelerate Philly’s Strategic Action regarding Arts and Creative Learning; meets with the Arts and Creative Learning leadership teams on an ongoing basis to assess the attainment of stated goals and facilitates appropriate internal networks to support and foster positive growth.
- Ensures schools are given support in all aspects of teaching, learning, and professional development, specifically in Arts and Creative Learning.
- Collaborates with the Office of Professional Learning to provide training for principals, teachers, and supervisory staff in an effort to strengthen and reinforce Arts pedagogical practices.
- Fosters a climate that encourages innovation and nurtures needed change.
- Provides an environment of trust that is responsive to the collective needs of principals, staff, and students.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree program from an accredited college or university.
- Ten years of full-time, paid, professional experience in the area of curriculum and instruction, five of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have included responsibility for directing and coordinating program implementation through subordinates.

Certificates/Licenses
- Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania certificate for K-12
OR
- Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania certificate for Elementary AND Secondary Principal
