Job Summary
The Workplace Culture Specialist for K-12 education leads strategic initiatives to foster a supportive, high-impact work environment that enhances both educator effectiveness and student success. This role drives systems change and improves workplace culture by designing and facilitating professional learning, providing coaching, and engaging in thought-partnership aimed at evaluating programs that support staff and students throughout the School District of Philadelphia (SDP). Focused on strengthening the educator pipeline, the specialist will ensure that schools are supported and responsive. Work involves recommending strategic plans to meet the short-term and long-term goals of the District and improve workplace culture in alignment with our strategic plan: https://www.philasd.org/strategicplan/. Working at the intersection of strategy and practice, the specialist collaborates with District leaders, school administrators, and community stakeholders to advance initiatives that directly impact student learning and workplace culture.
Essential Functions
• Supports schools and program offices by providing training modules and coaching to meet assessed needs.
• Lead systemic initiatives to address barriers and professional growth that disproportionately affects educators serving diverse backgrounds (Please see the District’s Strategic Plan for more details: https://www.philasd.org/strategicplan/).
• Develops strategies to enhance workplace culture initiatives.
• Works with senior leadership to embed workplace goals into District-wide strategic plans.
• Designs and implements professional learning opportunities that prepare educators and staff to meet diverse student needs, with a focus on inclusive teaching and culturally responsive practices.
• Facilitates training focused on student support, positive school environment, and collaborative approaches to student success.
• Support leaders, educators, and staff with coaching models that promote professional growth, enhance workplace culture, and strengthen instructional leadership practices to improve student outcomes.
• Conducts reviews of policies and recommends improvements to enhance student support, professional growth opportunities and systems change.
• Support District-wide initiatives that strengthen capacity and improve retention.
• Conducts needs assessments and climate surveys to identify systemic barriers.
• Prepares recommendations that support evidence-based decision-making and staff development.
Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree program from an accredited college or university in training, education, administration or a related field.
• Five years of full-time, paid, professional development experience leading and designing training for adults which have included strategic planning and systems change, workplace development, student support within K-12 education, educator development and addressing systemic inequities in education and strategies for institutional transformation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge of:
o the principles, practices and techniques of effective facilitation.
o a range of consultancy and coaching skills to understand and address workplace issues.
o the methods and techniques used in effective program planning, design and administration using appropriate processes and protocols.
o the current educational issues that directly impact student outcomes and experiences.
• Demonstrated ability to:
o collaborate with stakeholders including school leaders, District leaders and community organizations.
o process multiple tasks simultaneously and adhere to timelines. o assess the effectiveness of programmatic activities and make recommendations for modifications as needed.
o plan, develop and implement training sessions. o evaluate effectiveness of training and implement changes as needed. o analyze data and use data to drive decision-making and program evaluation. o maintain records and prepare reports. o develop and facilitate presentations. o effectively use Google Drive including documents, sheets, slides, and forms to develop and share content and presentations.
o communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
