Job Summary
Installs, inspects and repairs electronic intrusion alarm and closed circuit television (CCTV) systems at various School District facilities and properties. Monitors such systems to detect indications of unlawful intrusion or other irregular activities. Examines District facilities to assess current intrusion detection systems and to make recommendations for additions or
modifications.
Essential Functions
● Installs electronic alarm signaling and CCTV systems used to notify the central monitoring station of intrusions or other irregularities on School District premises; installs wires, conduits and signaling units, following blueprints of electrical layouts, electronic schematics and building plans; uses hand tools such as drills, soldering irons and wire cutters.
● Interprets and records coded signals received in the central monitoring station; interprets coded audible or visible signals received on an alarm signal board of CCTV system; reports irregular signals for corrective action.
● Inspects, tests, repairs and replaces a variety of electronic and electrical monitoring, controlling, transmitting, recording, receiving and displaying components of intrusion detection systems; examines signaling installations to ensure sound connections and unbroken insulation; following wire specifications and schematics and using various electronic equipment, tests circuits; tightens loose connections and replaces defective parts and wiring using electrician’s hand tools; adjusts controls to test the operation of signaling units at system sites and to insure uninterrupted service.
● Examines District buildings and facilities to determine the need for additional or modified intrusion detection systems; makes recommendations based on findings.
● Posts changes of system site opening and closing schedules; prepares daily alarm activity and service reports.
● Maintains contact with school custodians to facilitate prompt access to the locations of the intrusion detection systems.
● May direct the activities of other staff engaged in similar duties.
● Performs related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Three years of full-time, paid experience installing, maintaining, repairing and operating security systems, alarm devices, CCTV systems, door access controls or related equipment.
OR
● Any combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
● Demonstrated knowledge of:
o the principles, methods and procedures governing the electronics trade.
o the principles of electricity as they apply to the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of intrusion detection and CCTV systems including but not limited to audio, video, microwave, radar, ultrasonic and infra-red.
o digital electronics equipment.
● Demonstrated skill in:
o use and care of the tools and equipment of the electronics trade.
● Demonstrated ability to:
o install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain electronic, electrical components of intrusion detection and CCTV systems.
o read and interpret blueprints and electronic schematics.
o perform physical activities such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. Including but not limited to the ability to lift and carry 50lbs or more, carry & climb ladders up and down stairs and work from a bucket truck or man lift.
o mount raceways and conduits and fasten wires to wood framing, metal framing, brick & concrete using staplers; run wiring to connect equipment.
o prepare records and reports of work performed.
o accurately follow oral and written instructions.
o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
