Job Summary 

Implements evidence-based climate programming to achieve the School District of Philadelphia Board of Education's Goals for 2025. Climate programming, specifically addresses Guardrails 1 (Welcoming School Environments) and 4 (Ensuring Equity). Works with the Deputy to develop and oversee critical initiatives related to the work of the office. Areas of oversight include but are not limited to multi-tiered systems of support; student well-being; social and emotional learning; and climate implementation. The Executive Director, in collaboration with the Deputy, identifies strategic needs and identifies opportunities to grow or create programming in response, and to innovate proactively to support schools in achieving their goals. Applies implementation science principles to identify and plan for barriers and facilitators of evidence-based climate programs. 

Essential Functions 

  • Collaborates with the Deputy to set strategic priorities for the Office of School of Climate and Culture; creates feasible implementation plans to ensure buy-in at all levels and consistent adoption of programming aligned with office priorities. 
  • Supervises staff responsible for essential strategic functions in the Office of School Climate and Culture, including but not limited to training and support for school leaders, the Student Well- Being Survey, social and emotional learning, multi-tiered systems of support, implementation of climate programming and school climate planning. 
  • Collaborates with diverse partners and stakeholders to advance all areas of work responsibility which includes but is not limited to collaboration with: Assistant Superintendents, leaders from Student Support Services, Office of Academic Supports, Office of Schools, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Information Services, Evaluation, Research and Accountability, Office of Specialized Services; school leaders; and leadership and staff in the Office of School Climate and Culture. 
  • Supervises project managers' and project assistant's work relative to the Executive Director's areas of responsibility. 
  • Disseminates sustainable implementation practices. 
  • Stays up to date on relevant research.

 

 

Intermediate Unit Specialty 

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • Seven years of full-time, paid, professional experience in education, at least three of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have included responsibility for planning, developing and monitoring school climate and culture programs. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
Demonstrated knowledge of: 

  • implementation science and the theory and principles of school-level implementation. 
  • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and the processes and systems required to support its implementation at the school and district levels. 
  • Social-emotional learning and its connection to transformational education and academic achievement. 
  • Evidence-based programming in the area of school climate and culture. 
  • Trauma-informed practices. 
  • Supervisory methods and techniques. 

Demonstrated ability to: 

  • Focus on data-driven results and relentlessly pursues the improvement of central office performance and school leadership, instruction, and operations, and is driven by a desire to produce quantifiable student achievement gains. 
  • Be adaptable and excel in constantly changing environments and adapts flexibly in shifting projects or priorities to meet the needs of a dynamic transformation effort and is comfortable with ambiguity and non-routine situations. 
  • Consistently deliver with high quality and within short deadlines and successfully manage projects using strong organization, detailed work plans, while balancing multiple priorities. 
  • Takes initiative to explore issues and find potential innovative solutions. 
  • Lead and execute change management strategies. 
  • Develop productive relationships and build effective advisory bodies. effectively supervise staff. 
  • Create processes that are customer service driven. 
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
