Coordinator, Environmental Field Audits

The salary ranges is from $60,595-$92,304


Job Summary

Coordinates and audits the activities of consultants, contractors (both direct hired contractors and sub consultants to prime contracts) and District staff engaged in environmental projects. Visually inspects interior and exterior building conditions as needed to facilitate the proper reporting of damage, sampling, testing, and remediating. Tracks the status of environmental projects to keep the District’s OEMS unit informed and to streamline communication between the field and the office.


Essential Functions


  • Coordinates, participates and takes ownership of any Capital Projects and includes the review all scopes of work, coordination of other trades that may interfere with environmental remediation work and coordination of scheduling; proactively assesses how a project will impact education.
  • Coordinates with Facilities Area Managers, Building Engineers, and Principals.
  • Coordinates inspections with any third-party Compliance Monitors and stakeholders, as may be required from time to time.
  • Collects field data in an organized and concise manner, consistent with and as prescribed by standard operating procedures and work plans
  • Conducts visual inspections of environmental conditions and work performed including photo documentation and ensures that the School District maintains compliance with government regulations; ensures that the Environmental Remediation Response Manager is informed of any environmental issues which arise.
  • Reviews all contractor-initiated variances.
  • Completes daily inspection reports, including photo documentation, and uploading to a digital format.
  • Conducts field audits of ongoing abatement and/or remediation work with photo documentation.
  • Oversees installation of all project signage and environmental flagging.
  • Assists in response to requests for information.
  • Reads and interprets federal, state and local regulations and code.
  • Writes reports utilizing PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, Word, Outlook, and cloud services such as Google Drive to upload and share inspection reports.
  • Schedules inspections as well as other administrative tasks.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Seven years of full-time, paid, professional experience which has involved coordinating and conducting environmental field audits of abatement or remediation projects.
  • All work experience related to the position must be included on the resume.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • the principles, methods and procedures governing the repair and removal of asbestos containing materials (ACM), and lead based paint (LBP).
  • underground storage tank (UST) systems and soil and groundwater impacts, in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations.
  • the current methods, processes and techniques utilized to ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
  • the occupational hazards and safety precautions of asbestos containing materials (ACM), lead-based paint (LBP), and UST projects.
  • the materials, tools and equipment used in investigations, assessments and abatement activities.
  • the occupational hazards and safety precautions of other environmental concerns.
  • the materials, tools and equipment used in the repair and/or removal of other environmental concerns, such as mold.
  • hazards of universal waste and hazardous material handling, identification, tracking and disposal options.



Demonstrated ability to:

  • coordinate environmental field audits and the work of a team.
  • analyze and interpret data and results of tests and inspections supplied by outside consultants and to make modifications to original plans if deemed necessary by test results.
  • works while wearing a NIOSH approved supplied respirator type “C” or a NIOSH approved high efficiency air purifying respirator, type “D” for extended periods of time.
  • identify potential environmental hazards and take corrective action.
    • wear protective clothing and equipment for extended periods of time.
    • accurately follow oral and written directions.
    • prepare records and reports of work performed.
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Special Medical Requirements

  • Before a candidate can be employed for this position, he/she must successfully pass a physical examination as legally required by the regulations of NIOSH, the EPA and the state of Pennsylvania.


  • Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Possession of a valid EPA approved Asbestos Worker/Supervisor Certificate.
  • Possession of a valid EPA approved Lead Abatement Supervisor Certificate as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the City of Philadelphia.
