Job Summary

Provides behavior analysis services in the school and supports students through programming to increase skills and decrease problematic behaviors. Utilizes a variety of behavior management procedures including Discrete Trial/Intensive Teaching (DT/IT), Natural Environment Training (NET) /Pivotal Response Training (PRT) and Functional Communication Training. Assists staff with completion of assessments including preference assessments and functional behavior assessments.

Essential Functions

  •          Implements skill acquisition programs using methods rooted in the principals of ABA (DT/IT, NET/PRT, FCT).
  •          Collects and graph data for each student daily.
  •          Models techniques of reinforcement, prompting, shaping, chaining, errorless teaching and error correction for school staff and families.
  •          Maintains program books by updating students’ programs, collecting data and creating graphs for each program.
  •          Assists in the completion of behavior analytic assessments, such as, but not limited to preference assessments, functional behavior assessment VB-MAPP and Student Learning Profiles.
  •          Delivers and models behavior interventions outlined in the students’ positive behavior support plan.
  •          Implements Safety Care procedures to manage challenging and potentially dangerous behaviors.
  •          Supports the delivery of services in the least restrictive environment.

Minimum Requirements

  •          Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in behavior analysis, social work, counseling, psychology, education or a related field.
  •          One year of full-time, paid, professional experience working with students with behavior challenges between the ages of 5-21 utilizing techniques based on Applied Behavior Analysis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • the principles, practices and techniques of applied behavioral analysis.
  • the theory and practice of individual and group behavior, adolescent development, group dynamics and interpersonal skills.
  • the principles, practices and techniques of working with behavior challenges.
  • the current health, economic and social problems experienced by urban families.
  • the functions and resources of social service agencies/community organizations.  

Demonstrated ability to:

  • collect data and plot data on graphs.
  • interpret written behavior plans and adhere to the techniques outlined in the behavior plan.
  • maintain a positive attitude despite challenging student behaviors.
  • employ tact, diplomacy and sound judgment in dealing with sensitive or personal problems and hostile attitudes.
  • prepare reports and correspondence and maintain records.
  • use a personal computer and software applications such as Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • work effectively with people and to aid them in the constructive use of their capacities to address their specific problems.
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.
