Job Summary

The Assistant Superintendent of Postsecondary Readiness plays a critical role in ensuring all students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to successfully imagine and realize any future they desire. This leadership position champions a comprehensive approach to postsecondary readiness, inclusive of work-based learning, career-connected learning, and career and technical education (CTE). The incumbent will drive innovation, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making to equip students with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in the 21st-century workforce. This position requires a strong leader who is culturally competent and has demonstrated an ability to improve student readiness for postsecondary pursuits. The person in this position will provide leadership in the development and maintenance of collaborative relationships across District offices and external partners. 

Essential Functions

·  Drives innovative approaches to postsecondary readiness for all students, emphasizing work-based learning, career-connected experiences, and robust CTE pathways.

·  Designs and leads the implementation of high-quality work-based learning experiences, including internships, paid and unpaid apprenticeships, and service-learning opportunities for all students.

·  Provides strategic direction, implementation planning, and expert oversight in support of the District’s Career and Technical Education programming.

·  Oversees the growth and development of comprehensive and innovative CTE programs, ensuring they are rigorous, relevant, and responsive to local labor market needs.

·  Constructs and implements a data-driven approach to postsecondary readiness, ensuring all students are on track for graduation or receive targeted support for graduation, including 9th-grade on-track, credit recovery and tutoring.

·  Designs industry-related professional development for all CTE staff that is program-related and helps maintain the industry's current technology standards.

·  Determines how to best ensure both industry teachers and content staff are engaged in seamless preparation.

·  Develops and implements comprehensive postsecondary readiness programming that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to succeed in college and beyond - this includes but is not limited to career-connected learning, dual enrollment, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Early College, Senior Year Only programming, and summer activities.

·  Leads the development and implementation of comprehensive professional development programs specifically designed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills to increase the rigor and complexity of classroom assignments and activities, ensuring students are prepared for the demands of postsecondary education.

·  Empowers teams dedicated to connecting students with future pathways, fostering strong relationships with partners and colleges, and measuring program impact as represented in the District's strategic plan.

·  Designs and oversees unique postsecondary pathways tailored to student needs, community input, and labor market demands.

·  Tackles emerging issues proactively, addressing roadblocks to postsecondary readiness and achieving reform goals.

·  Analyzes trends, recommends adaptations, and disseminates evidence-based practices on postsecondary readiness initiatives, including financial aid scholarship support for students and families and SAT/ACT preparation inside and outside of the instructional day.

·  Collaborates cross-departmentally, ensuring transparency and informing the public about district programs and activities.

·  Forges strong partnerships; builds cooperative relationships with administrators, government officials, institutions of higher education, and community organizations.

·  Ensures that all Occupational Advisory Councils (OAC) committees meet at least twice per year; serves as thought partners, and offers recommendations for their respective business/industry.

·  Manages resources effectively, allocating funds and monitoring budgets to maximize impact and achieve critical objectives.

Advocates for policies and practices that promote equitable access to high-quality postsecondary pathways for all students

Minimum Requirements

·  Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational administration or a related field.

·  Seven years of full-time, paid, professional experience in the field of career and technical/vocational education, at least three of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

·  Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility or Commission

 NOTE: An applicant who does not meet the minimum education or work experience requirements listed above may be considered if, at the sole discretion of the Talent Office, they have a unique combination of education and work experiences that indicates potential for success in this role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of:

o    the principles, practices, methods and techniques of career and technical education programs.

o    the methods and procedures for incorporating paid and unpaid work experience for in-school youth.

o    educational innovations and new developments in the field of career and technical education programs.

o    the postsecondary landscape, including colleges, universities, technical schools, apprenticeships, and other options.

o    effective practices in integrating career exploration and planning into the core curriculum.

o    designing and implementing high-quality internships, apprenticeships, and service-learning opportunities.

o    District operations, budgeting, and school leadership.

 Demonstrated ability to:

o    lead, motivate, and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including school-based personnel, families, and partners.

o    develop and implement a comprehensive, data-driven strategic plan for postsecondary readiness.

o    effectively manage departmental budget and resources.

o    navigate resistance to change and implement new initiatives effectively.

o    think critically and creatively to solve problems and develop innovative solutions.

o    plan, direct, evaluate, and work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

o    analyze data to track student progress, program effectiveness, and identify areas for improvement.

o    use a personal computer to develop presentations, documents, spreadsheets, and analyses.

o    manage complex processes and supervise staff.

o    restructure existing systems to achieve District goals.

o    present ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

o    establish and maintain effective working relationships.
