Job Summary
Under general supervision by the Manager, Retirement and Unemployment, learns how to determine initial eligibility and performs a wide range of duties. Receives training and instruction in processing retirements and resignations for all employee groups. Under the general supervision by the Manager, Retirement and Unemployment, receives training and instruction in processing retirement enrollments and adjustments to the Public Schools Employee’s Retirement System and/or in ORACLE. Assignments will grow in size and complexity as proficiency is gained. Assists walk-ins and employees calling. Provides data review and entry to support PSERS enrollment (as needed). Responds to requests for information and generates activity reports.
Essential Functions
• Processes retirement and resignation requests; answers questions and provides accurate policies and guidance pertaining to voluntary retirement and/or resignation requests.
• Manages large amounts of incoming calls and customer walk-ins; responds to departmental e-mails or escalates as needed. • Identifies and assesses customers’ needs; provides accurate, valid and complete information by using the right methods/tools.
• Handles complaints and provides appropriate solutions and alternatives to ensure resolution.
▪ Updates and corrects status changes to employees’ records, in ORACLE. ▪ Completes data requests in a timely fashion.
▪ Reports employee demographic changes and termination dates to PSERS’ web-based application (NPAS) on a monthly basis.
▪ Reviews employee enrollments in ORACLE to make sure all employees are enrolled and reported to PSERS on a biweekly basis.
▪ Responds with efficiency and effectiveness to internal queries regarding financial aspects of the employee retirement pension plan.
▪ Performs calculations in resolving discrepancies of reported salary and service of employees and submits adjustments to PSERS.
▪ Interacts with District personnel, union representative and PSERS representatives to address issues related to the reporting of the salary and years of service for employees.
▪ Reviews, analyzes and evaluates issues pertaining to employee deduction rate changes and corrections of retirement contributions.
▪ Oversee the administrative processes for voluntary retirement and resignation requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance with SDP regulations and Board policies.
▪ Respond to inquiries and resolve issues from employees, and retirees, regarding their resignation and/or retirement request.
▪ All other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, communications, human resources, or a related field at an accredited college or university.
OR
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Talent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated knowledge of:
o standard office principles, practices and procedures. o working on a team.
o business English, including spelling, punctuation and grammar.
• Demonstrated skill in:
o Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated ability to: o learn the principles and practices utilized to answer a variety of PSERS retirement related inquiries
o learn basic ORACLE as it applies to employee retirement functions.
o plan and organize work activities and multitask.
o use and operate a personal computer and utilize word-processing and spreadsheet software applications, including Excel.
o work cooperatively with team members and the public.
o follow oral and written instructions accurately.
o effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
