Minimum Requirements

Food Services Specialty

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in food science or nutrition.
  • Three years of full-time, paid professional experience in K-12 menu planning, inventory management, supply administration, or procurement which has involved purchasing of food and supplies for cafeteria locations which included responsibility for an automated inventory control system, and the development of highly technical specifications for supplies and/or equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RD) credential issued by the Commission on Dietetics Registration.

OR

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in food science or nutrition.
  • One year of full-time, paid professional experience in K-12 menu planning, inventory management, supply administration, or procurement which has involved purchasing of food  and supplies for cafeteria locations which included responsibility for an automated inventory control system, and the development of highly technical specifications for supplies and/or equipment.
  • Possession of a valid Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist (RD) credential issued by the Commission on Dietetics Registration.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Food Services Specialty

  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • principles and practices of K-12 menu planning
  • principles and practices of materials management and its application to a large central purchasing operation.
  • principles and practices of administrative analysis as applied to a computerized inventory control system
  • the operational aspects of supply systems.
  • The operation of USDA Donated Foods Program.
  • Ability to:
  • Plan a compliant k-12 breakfast, lunch and at-risk menu
  • maintain an effective system for continuing evaluation of material management procedures.
  • develop and implement inventory practices and procedures.
  • plan, assign and review the work of staff engaged in inventory control and procurement related activities.
  • use a personal computer.
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.
