Director of Curriculum and Instruction (Math Specialty)
This is a full-time, Non-Represented role. The salary grade for this posting is 4030. Please note that the final salary will be determined by our Classification and Compensation team after reviewing the candidate's experience and considering our internal salary equity.

Job Summary:
Coordinates and reviews plans designed to provide a comprehensive education program in math for grades K-12. Provides leadership in the areas of curriculum development, staff development, and the effective utilization of instructional materials. Monitors programmatic activities/initiatives and ensures that they are in compliance with the School District of Philadelphia’s action plan.
Essential Functions:
• Oversees and directs the activities of staff; coordinates the planning and implementation of curricular programs and initiatives relative to K-12 math; develops plans that address continuous student improvement in response to District data.
• Provides direct support to the Deputy of Curriculum and Instruction with regard to math instruction.
• Oversees and reviews benchmark test content and design; researches current instructional practices and models for effective instruction.
• Plans and coordinates meetings and the work of math curriculum specialists and school-based instructional leaders and coaches
• Works collaboratively with internal departments, institutions of higher education and other external organizations and agencies.
• Ensures continuous, provided support in the implementation of quality math instruction, assessments and personalized professional development on best practices.
• Develops, plans and conducts ongoing professional development training for instructional leaders on integrating best practices.
• Observes and monitors the implementation of quality math instruction at schools.
• Coordinates with the School District initiatives and the State regarding the effectiveness of the math program implementation.
Other Functions:
• Attends community and professional meetings as appropriate to support curriculum development.
Minimum Requirements:
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Seven years of full-time, paid, professional experience in education, three of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have involved implementing instructional strategies.
Certificates/Licenses:
• Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania certificate for K-12 or Elementary and Secondary
OR
• Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania certificate to supervise math for the math specialty
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of:
• PA Common Core Standards and curriculum development, as well as implementation and instructional strategies related to curriculum, content and problem-solving.
• the principles, practices and methods of education in math.
• a variety of pedagogical modalities.
• research related to the field of expertise.
• the principles of educational administration.
• supervisory methods and techniques.
Demonstrated ability to:
• apply research to practical situations.
• oversee and review benchmark test content and design.
• plan and administer strategies for effective system wide staff development.
