Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in applied behavioral sciences, psychology, education, or other related fields.
  • Seven years of full-time, paid, professional experience in the field of special education working as a behavior specialist for students with disabilities, which included at least three years working with students with Autism and Emotional Disturbance, and has involved Functional Behavioral Assessments, developing behavior plans, providing training in and using behavioral interventions, classroom management  and intervention techniques such as positive behavior intervention, Applied Behavior Analysis (Discrete Trial Training), Picture Exchange Communication System, positive behavior intervention, social skills training, and communication training.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
  • applied behavior sciences, Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Emotional Behavior Disorders, and related disorders.
  • planning, implementing and supervising District-wide programs, this includes but is not limited to providing direct supervision to subordinate behavior staff (i.e. Behavior Analysts, Applied Behavior Analysts, Applied Behavior Analyst Specialists or other related positions as specified). 
  • strategies for successful inclusion of students with Autism or an Emotional Behavior Disorder in regular education programming.
  • the principles and practices in the area of specialization.
  • the current social and economic problems affecting urban families and children.
  • the methods and techniques for effective program administration.
  • training principles and practices.
  • research methods and data analysis.

 

  • Demonstrated ability to:  
  • supervise staff and monitor their work.
  • plan, coordinate and implement programmatic activities.

assess the effectiveness and efficiency of behavioral initiatives and make modifications as needed.

provide leadership in designing and developing professional development to meet identified needs and initiatives.

  • work collaboratively with internal and external personnel in the development and implementation of a variety of programmatic activities.
  • use a personal computer.
  • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Certificates/Licenses

Possession of a valid certificate as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and meet the current Behavior Analyst Certification Board Standards for Supervision Requirements to supervise Exam Candidates and must be maintained during tenure of appointment.
